4 Ways to Support Mental Wellness

Mental wellness is crucial for every person, and this is especially true for mothers.

Pregnancy and parenting can be exciting and also challenging, and expectant mothers may experience a range of emotions as they navigate this journey. At Grace's Table, we understand the importance of mental wellness for all mothers, but especially for teen mothers who face increased challenges.

As we approach Mental Health Awareness Month, we want to highlight some strategies that all mothers can use to care for their mental health during pregnancy (and beyond). Our team of family advocates, who are experts in supporting teen mothers, offer many resources and strategies to help moms prioritize their mental wellness.

Spend Time With Others

One key strategy is to spend time with others who provide support and encouragement. Quality time can be especially beneficial for teen mothers who may feel isolated or unsupported. In addition, spending time with other mothers who understand the challenges of parenting can provide a sense of community and offer helpful advice.

Ask for Help

Seeking professional help from a therapist, counselor, or social worker is also an effective way to improve mental health. At Grace's Table, we partner with Third Chair Counseling to offer this service to our mothers.

Eat Well

Eating a balanced and nutritious diet is another essential aspect of mental wellness during pregnancy. A balanced diet includes foods from the five food groups: whole grains, vegetables, lean meats, fruit, and dairy. In addition, staying hydrated by drinking water and milk is also crucial.

Rest

Rest is essential for feeling good during pregnancy and maintaining a good mood. Even if a full night's sleep isn't possible, taking a break to relax and breathe deeply can be helpful. Meditation and gentle movement practices like yoga and tai chi can also reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression.

Want to Learn More?

At Grace's Table, we support teen mothers to ensure they prioritize their mental wellness during pregnancy and parenting. Our free spring wellness event, Grounded in Grace, is a perfect opportunity for the community to learn more about these strategies and connect with others who share their experiences. Every mother deserves to prioritize their mental wellness, and we are committed to supporting teen mothers in this important journey.
